Donation Rules
Who Can Donate

Individuals who live in Alberta.

Alberta-based corporations that are not prohibited organizations.

Alberta trade unions or employee organizations.
Who Cannot Donate

People living outside Alberta.

Prohibited organizations, such as:

Registered charities.
-
Municipalities or their controlled corporations.
-
Provincial corporations (e.g., housing bodies).
-
Métis settlements.
-
School boards or public post-secondary institutions.

Registered political parties.

Donation Limits

Individuals, eligible corporations, unions, or employee organizations can donate up to $5,000 total per calendar year (2024 and 2025 combined) across all council candidates (mayor and councillors).

Candidates can contribute up to $10,000 of their own money to their campaign during the campaign period (October 31, 2024, to December 31, 2025).
Donation Rules

Donations must come from your own funds. You cannot donate money given to you by someone else for this purpose.

Anonymous donations are only allowed if $50 or less and collected at a fundraising event (e.g., a donation box). If we can identify the donor, the money will be returned; otherwise, it will go to a registered charity or The City of Calgary.

Donations over $50 will receive a receipt with your name, address, and amount, which we’ll include in our public campaign disclosure.

Campaign donations are not tax-deductible.
